If you are thinking of booking a holiday in Cyprus Paphos you may be wondering what to include. Although there is a large selection of activities to choose from the four tips enumerated here will definitely add variety and interest to your holiday.
We are going to review 2 local points of interest, the harbour and the Roman mosaics, and the other two are great locations you can travel to close to Paphos.
The Harbour Area
The harbour in Paphos is certainly worth taking time to visit. Thousands of years of history are preserved in this area and at the same time it offers a picturesque place to enjoy some refreshments at one of the numerous tavernas which skirt the small marina.
The old castle is well worth a visit. It has some very interesting facts and commentaries on the wall plaques as you walk around the inside.
Close by the harbour is the next treat - the Roman mosaics. Of all the things to see when considering holidays to Cyprus Paphos, the Roman mosaics must surely be at the top or near the top of the list.
Roman Mosaics
Mosaic decorations from 5 houses are on show here, many of them well restored so you can see the amazing detail.
Very interesting scenes are depicted in the mosaics taken from the characters of Greek mythology going right back to the 2nd and 3rd centuries.
Although the site of the mosaics is open every day throughout the year, you may want to check on the opening times as they can vary depending on the season.
Aphrodite's Rock
Petra Tou Romiou is the Greek name for this site just a few kilometers from Paphos. It means "Rock Of The Greek" and it is easy to find as it is so close to the main highway. It is popularly known as Aphrodite's Rock by tourists and is the birth place of Aphrodite in Greek mythology.
Even from the highway, this area looks really beautiful. When you come off the highway and park up, a short walk takes you to the pebble beach. From there you can enjoy a swim close to the massive rock which stands out a few meters from the shore. The scenery here is very dramatic!
Akamas Peninsula
The Akamas Peninsula is breathtaking in its beauty. It is a conservation area and quite unspoilt. It is not difficult to get here from Paphos. You just find the Polis road and stick to it. About forty minutes later you arrive in Polis and a few minutes later you are in Laatchi.
Laatchi has a lovely marina. It is so relaxing to just sit along the marina edge with the amazing backdrop of the mountains in the distance sloping down to the sea and absorb the peace and tranquility of the bay. The sea always seems to have a fantastic blue color here.
Well, as we said, these 4 recommendations will give your holiday in Paphos a nice edge, with great memories to take home.
In addition to these 4 suggestions, there is a host of other activities you can enjoy, particularly a wide variety of water sports.
